Dried wood is wood from which most of the moisture has been removed by natural or artificial means, usually to 8–20% moisture content (depending on the purpose). Drying can be natural (outdoors or in a shed) or industrial (in special dryers).
Freshly cut or already sawn wood is only raw material for further production and processing processes; it becomes a valuable structural material only after most of the moisture has been removed from it, dried in special dryers or naturally. Dried wood is more expensive and its assortment is dominated by a significantly smaller selection of dimensions.
Wood is dried according to its type and intended use, therefore the moisture content of the wood to which the wood must be dried depends on the purpose of the wood. Wood intended for the production of furniture, stairs, railings and other interior products must be dried to 7 - 8%, for construction products - to 18 - 20%, etc.
With us you will find oak, ash, maple and other wood thick boards (slats) and planks for the production of furniture, stairs and other products.
Properties of dried wood:
Lower weight - lighter than green wood, easier to transport and install.
Higher strength and stability - less deformed, split, shrink or expand.
Better durability - more resistant to rot, fungal diseases, insect damage.
More suitable for processing - better suited for cutting, sanding, gluing and painting.
Purpose and methods of use:
1. Construction
Structural elements (beams, rafters, roof trusses)
Floors, wall frames, ceilings
Window and door frames
2. Furniture production
Dried wood is used for the production of tables, cabinets, beds, chairs and other furniture.
It is especially valued for its stability and aesthetics.
3. Interior decoration
Paneling, skirting boards, ceiling finishes
Stairs, railings, doors
4. Outdoor products
Terraces, gazebos, fences, garden furniture (additional protection against moisture is required)
5. Wood products and handicrafts
Sculptures, carvings, musical instruments, decorative elements
Dried wood is a universal, high-quality material, suitable for both structural purposes and aesthetically valuable products. Due to its properties, it is indispensable in many areas - from mass construction to small handicrafts.
